As part of our ongoing drive to improve how we operate, Kāinga Ora is proposing changes to our Digital IT teams to ensure staff have the right support to make the most of new technology.

The proposed changes would disestablish 183 roles and create 145 new ones, a net reduction of 38 roles. With 34 of these roles currently vacant, the proposed changes are expected to result in a reduction of four roles.

Kāinga Ora has a programme underway to upgrade our outdated core technology systems. This programme is a key part of our wider transformation, helping Kāinga Ora become a more responsive and consistently high-performing organisation.

Modernising our technology systems will strengthen resilience, improve data security, and help us better serve our tenants. It will also make it easier to work with the other agencies that support our tenants.

As we upgrade our systems and strengthen our digital capability, we also need to ensure the right support is in place so staff can use the new technology effectively. We’ve already made changes to the leadership structure within our Digital IT teams, and now consulting on further changes that are aimed at ensuring we have the right skills and structures in place to embed the new technology and ways of working.

No final decisions have been made, and we are doing everything we can to support impacted staff through this process.
