Make an Official Information Act (OIA) Request
The Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) allows you to make a request for official information held by New Zealand public service agencies, including Kāinga Ora.
Official information is any information held by a public service agency, a Minister of the Crown and an organisation as defined in the OIA. It includes, but is not limited to, written documents (including briefings and reports) correspondence (including emails) video and audio recordings and data.

Make an OIA request
To make a request, complete the form below and include:
- your name
- your email address
(if you prefer the response posted please include your address) - a clear description of the information you want
Urgent requests
If your request is urgent, tell us and explain why. When deciding urgency, we consider:
- your reasons for urgency
- whether it should be prioritised over other work
- the volume and complexity of information
- how the information is held
- whether consultation is needed
- the impact on Kāinga Ora operations
What happens after you submit your OIA request
- We will acknowledge your request (usually within 24 hours)
- We will respond within 20 working days
We may:
- ask for clarification if your request is unclear
- work with you to refine very broad requests
- extend the timeframe for large or complex requests (we’ll notify you with a due date)
- transfer the request to another part of government
Responses may be published on our website as part of Kāinga Ora policy.
When information may be withheld
We may refuse a request or withhold information only if allowed under the OIA.

- the reason and/or
- the legal grounds
